Justin Jefferson is an American football wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League. He was selected with the 22nd overall pick by the Vikings in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft. As a rookie in 2020, he was recognized for his stellar performance and earned a place in the 2020 PFWA All-Rookie Team, followed by three Pro Bowl selections and two all-pro selections. He led the league in receptions and receiving yards during the 2022 campaign.

Interestingly, Jefferson comes from a family with athletic genes ingrained. He was born in Louisiana to John Earl Jefferson and Elaine Jefferson. His father is a former basketball player. He began playing high school football at Destrehan High School in Destrehan, Louisiana and subsequently continued playing college football at Louisiana State University. The team had a historical season in 2019, with Jefferson recording 111 receptions and 18 touchdowns. His 111 receptions were the most by any receiver across the country. The 2019 season culminated with Jefferson’s team winning the National Championship. After concluding his junior year at LSU, he entered the 2020 NFL Draft.

In his rookie season, Jefferson broke the record for most number of receiving yards by a rookie with 1400 receiving yards. Additionally, he was one of only two rookies who earned the 2020 Pro Bowl selection. Jefferson recorded over 1,600 yards in his sophomore season in 2021. The 2022 campaign proved to be a highlight of his career, he recorded 128 receptions for 1,809 yards and led the league, earning the 2022 NFL Offensive Player of the Year award for his exceptionally impressive performance. In 2023, the team exercised the fifth-year option of Jefferson’s rookie contract. Despite injuries in the 2023 campaign, he had another 1,000 yard receiving season. He has exclusively played for the Vikings as of 2024 and his 4-year extension in 2024 will see him wear purple and gold for another few years.
