Sean McDermott is a professional American football coach currently serving as the head coach and defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska on March 21, 1974. McDermott began his professional career as a coach in the NFL in 1999 when he was hired by the Philadelphia Eagles as a scouting administrative coordinator. In 2003, the Eagles promoted McDermott and he became the defensive quality control coach. After serving the Eagles for 12 years McDermott was fired by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011.

After getting fired by the Eagles he was signed by the Carolina Panthers as their defensive coordinator in 2011. McDermott reached the grand stage of the Super Bowl with the Panthers in 2016, where they lost against the Denver Broncos. After serving the Panthers from 2012 to 2015 McDermott joined the Buffalo Bills in 2017 as their head coach. He led the Bills to four consecutive playoff games and an AFC championship Game appearance in 2022. In 2023 he signed an extension with the Bills.
