Sean McVay is an American football head coach for the Los Angeles Rams of the NFL. He is the third youngest head coach in the NFL as of September 2024. McVay’s first stint in the NFL as a coach came with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2008. From there on, he has guided different positional groups for two other teams in 8 years before getting the head coaching gig in 2017.Sean McVay has experience playing football as a quarterback and defensive back during his 4-year high school tenure at Marist. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2008)

Sean McVay served for one year as an assistant wide receivers coach under Jon Gruden for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Florida Tuskers (2009)

In his second stop, McVay worked under Jon Gruden’s brother Jay Gruden (who was the offensive coordinator of the team during that time) as wide receivers coach for the Tuskers of the United Football League (UFL).

Sean McVay was named Los Angeles Rams 28th head coach on January 12, 2017. He became the youngest head coach in NFL history at just 30 years, 354 days. Sean McVay’s arrival instantly turned the fortunes around of LA, who had gone 4-12 the previous year. Not only did the Rams go on to have a winning season in 2017, but they also won the NFC West by finishing 11-5 in the regular season.

The next two seasons were a bit of a down year in the McVay era as the Rams finished 3rd and 2nd in the NFC West in 2019 and 2020 respectively. The team missed the playoffs for the first time in 2019 since Sean McVay’s arrival in L.A..

However, the trade for Matthew Stafford in the 2021 offseason proved to be a boon for McVay and the Boys as the Los Angeles Rams went on to win the 2nd Super Bowl in franchise history that year. McVay became the youngest head coach to win a Super Bowl at age 36. By the end of 2023, Sean McVay has a 70-45 record in the regular season while going 7-4 in the postseason.
