Sean Payton is a professional American football coach who is the head coach for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League and a former quarterback. He was the head coach of the New Orleans Saints from 2006 to 2021 and he led the team to its first Super Bowl victory against the Indianapolis Colts in 2009. Sean Payton was born in San Mateo, California, and raised in Naperville, Illinois by his parents Thomas and Jeanne Payton. During his middle school years, Sean Payton lived in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Sean attended Naperville Central High School in Naperville, Illinois, and played quarterback in his senior year before graduating in 1982. He won a football scholarship at Eastern Illinois University and played quarterback for the Eastern Illinois Panthers football team, leading the Panthers to an 11–2 record and the quarter-finals of the Division I-AA Playoffs in 1986.
