Sean Payton is a professional American football coach who is the head coach for the Denver Broncos as of the 2024 NFL season and a former quarterback. He was the head coach of the New Orleans Saints from 2006 to 2021 and he led the team to its first Super Bowl victory against the Indianapolis Colts in 2009. For his efforts, he also won the AP NFL Coach of the Year. Payton guided the Saints to three NFL Conference Championship Games and one Super Bowl victory. After guiding the Saints for 16 seasons he joined the Denver Broncos in 2023 as their head coach.

Payton was born in San Mateo, California, and raised in Naperville, Illinois by his parents Thomas and Jeanne Payton. During his middle school years, Payton lived in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Sean attended Naperville Central High School in Naperville, Illinois, and played quarterback in his senior year before graduating in 1982. He won a football scholarship at Eastern Illinois University and played quarterback for the Eastern Illinois Panthers football team.

Sean Payton’s Super Bowl Wins

As a head coach, Sean Payton led the New Orleans Saints to Super Bowl XLIV in 2010, where they defeated the Indianapolis Colts 31–17.

Additionally, Payton joined the New York Giants in 1999 as a quarterbacks coach and became their offensive coordinator in 2000. During his time with the team, he helped them reach Super Bowl XXXV against the Baltimore Ravens in 2001.
