5 Reasons why Undertaker should not return for WrestleMania 31

WrestleMania is around the corner and like all those previous years, the big question on every WWE fan’s mind would be about Undertaker’s appearance at the grand stage. However, unlike all those other instances, there is a big catch this time around: Undertaker’s legendary streak is no more. This fact makes Taker’s return to the WWE programming a fifty- fifty affair even though all the fans would love to see him once again inside the ring. It’s quite natural of the fans to expect something similar from Taker but that should not directlymean he should actually make an appearance. There are a lot of factors out that there that calls out why Undertaker should not return for WrestleMania 31 and here is a rundown on them.

#5 The lack of a proper opponent

If Taker is supposed to make his appearance at WrestleMania, the next obvious question will be about his opponent. Now that the streak is over (we’ll get to that soon) this wouldn’t be a big deal but still that doesn’t mean WWE should book the Bunny against Taker.

Lesnar would be the first choice after their showdown last year but since he is the reigning champion, that decision wouldn’t go down well on the longer run.

Sting is another possibility but the icon has already locked horns with Triple H taking him out of the scenario as well. Bray Wyatt on the other hand is a good option but then again, Bray would struggle to carry Taker throughout the match and put him over.

#4 Broken Streak

Undertaker’s streak was one of the biggest draws for WrestleMania while it was still alive. From the process of choosing an opponent to the sigh of the final bell, everything about Taker’s streak was a celebration for the fans.

However, that entire aura was lost last year when Brock Lesnar became the one in twenty one and one. It’s not that Taker’s career is defined by his streak but one cannot ignore the significance.

With the streak gone, Undertaker’s appearance might struggle to get all the main stream attention and at the same time, fans would find it hard to invest more emotionally into the match since the thing that mattered the most is no more.

#3 Possible scar to the legacy

Taker has an evergreen legacy in the professional wrestling business for everything he has done. He will always be remembered as one of the legendary names in the squared circle and who would want to ruin that legacy.

Last year, Taker had a horrible match with Brock Lesnar at Mania but that fact was overshadowed due to the big moment of the streak ending.

This year, there is no streak to cover up for the bad wrestling that Taker is going to bring in. His last match would probably go down in the history as one of his worst if Taker wrestles again and that would indeed be a scar in his legacy.

#2 WWE has to move on

If there is anything out there that WWE has to prove after the Streak’s demise at WrestleMania 30, it’s about their ability to move on.

The company has been heavily dependent on Taker’s streak when it came to the WrestleMania period and this will be their first opportunity to show that they don’t need Undertaker to pull off a pay-per-view.

This is significant because Vince McMahon has to survive the years to come without Taker. WrestleMania 31 should be a good start for that run while bringing out Taker once again would add more unwanted expectations from the fans.

#1 His health

At the end of the day, everyone is concerned about their health but that might not be the case with professional wrestlers. They are known for putting their wellbeing on the line every time they step in between the ropes and Taker was no different.

In the legendary career that spanned nearly three decades, Taker has bled, broke bones and suffered a whole lot of pain to reach where he is now.

Taker turns 50 next year and he is probably at his worst physical condition from the pictures we’ve seen recently. Urging Taker to have one more match would be a sin from most of the fans as we are only looking for our selfish needs rather than understanding that he is a human who has a family to live with.
