The American completed her Majors in Liberal Arts and Sciences Exploratory and also finished her bachelor's degree in media studies and business. She returned to the University of Florida to finish her Masters in Sports Management, a program that was affiliated with the WTA.

Danielle Collins made her debut at the ITF level in 2009 and won her first title in 2011. The 30-year-old made her WTA main-draw debut at the 2014 US Open after receiving a wildcard to feature at the hardcourt major. She squared off against Simona Halep at the Arthur Ashe Stadium and pushed the Romanian to three sets in an absorbing contest.
