The New York Yankees are off to a good start this season, and Juan Soto has been a big part of the club. To secure Soto's stay with the Yankees team, his management is planning to re-sign him to a longer-term contract.

The New York Yankees' owner, Hal Steinbrenner, voiced his intention to re-sign Juan Soto to a long-term contract deal. Steinbrenner, while player extensions during the season are not always a common scenario, admits Soto's case is special owing to his upcoming free agency.

“Well, I think we’d like to see him here for the rest of his career. I don’t think there’s any doubt of that. His agent, Scott [Boras], doesn’t tend to normally do deals in the middle of the season.” said Steinbrenner as per Yahoo Sports.

The only concern here is that Soto’s agent, Scott Boras, does not like midseason deals. This helps to increase the player’s value. However, Juan Soto hinted that he was all ears.

“My doors has been always open. Whenever he wants to start talking with Scott and all his people, the door is open. They was open to hear whatever he has. And for me, I just focus on the game right now,” said Juan Soto in a postgame interview after the match against the Minnesota Twins.

Juan Soto was traded to the Yankees in December from the Padres with a contract worth $31 million for a one-year deal. He has a batting average of .302 and an OPS of .920. This season, he has hit nine home runs and had 34 RBIs.

Juan Soto breaks Mickey Mantle’s record

Yankees outfielder Juan Soto has etched his name in baseball history. The 25-year-old has broken Mickey Mantle’s record for most walks before turning 26.

Soto had his 669th career walk against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday. His incredible plate discipline and patience at the plate have often resulted in walks.

With his strong start to the season, Soto has the potential to continue rewriting the record books for years to come.
