Veteran Irish golfer Paul McGinley feels there are a couple of reasons why Rory McIlroy has been winless in Majors for the last 10 years. He felt the golfer was more determined when he broke into the scene, and he added that now there was some psychological pressure on him to go past the line.

McIlroy is at Valhalla Club this week looking to win his fifth Major championship. His last Major championship title came 10 years ago at the same golf course. After winning four Majors in four years, he has been in a drought for more than a decade.

McGinley, who has been McIlroy's captain in the Ryder Cup, had a couple of observations on the golfer's Major drought. He said the Northern Irishman was more determined than his competitors in his early years.

"The fields are stronger now," he said, as per Golf Channel. "Back then, he was a young guy forging his way, and his elbows were at their pointiest. It was really a case of, 'I am on a march to be the top player in the game, so get out of my way.' He had a clear vision.
"As you get there and climb the mountain, can you stay there? He has done that in PGA Tour events where his win ratio of 10% is fantastic compared to anyone else. Even Scottie Scheffler has only a win ratio of 8%," he added.

Although Rory McIlroy hasn't won another Major since 2014, he has added 17 titles on the PGA Tour and five on the European Tour.

The three-time Ryder Cup winner suggested that there was a psychological aspect to the four-time major champion's winning drought. He added that he was just one Major win away from adding multiple Majors in the future.

"If he gets it once, I feel—maybe not—that there are certainly another three or four Majors in Rory McIlroy. It is all about getting the first one. You would have to think that a golf course like this, that he has won on before, is the kind of thing that could ignite him," he added.

How has Rory McIlroy performed in the Majors since winning the 2014 PGA Championship?

Since winning the 2014 PGA Championship, Rory McIlroy has made 35 appearances in the Majors and has registered 20 top-ten finishes. He has finished runner-up in three of the four majors. Last year, he was runner-up at the US Open and made the top ten in three of the four majors. This year, he finished T22 at the Masters Tournament.

McIlroy is currently tied for 19th at the PGA Championship. He carded a 68 in the third round and is at 8-under, seven strokes behind the leaders, Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa.

Rory McIlroy will begin the final round of the PGA Championship on Sunday, May 19, at 12:45 pm ET with Tom Kim.
