Spain and France Fight for Enzo Zidane

The World bid Adieu to one of the planets best footballer – Zidane in 2006 World Cup Final in Berlin. Just four years down the line, Zidane is making waves in the world of football again. But this time, it’s not Zinedine Zidane but Enzo Zidane – the 15 years young son of Zizou.

Normally at 15, like every kid, he should have been studying at school but there seems to be very less normal about Enzo. He is an already a regular star in the Madrid youth teams, where he continues to display footwork and skill reminiscent of his father. Playing in the same position where his father played and wearing the jersey No. 10, he looks like a printed copy of his father.

Though his talent has been known for some time, it is only recently that his progression has reached such heights that the youngster is beginning to attract attention from outside the club. Whilst his club future looks to be very much in place, there is uncertainty looming large over the nation he is going to represent.

Enzo was born in France in 1995 & also has a Spanish passport thanks to his mother; both her parents are Spanish while Zizou himself was one of the greatest footballers ever to have played for France. So toing and froing between the two countries are inevitable.

First there was a report that France has called him up to play for one of their youth teams. To counter that, Spain made their intention public which made Gines Melendez, the coach of Spain’s Under-17 squad say that “We’re going to call him up for Spain. We intend to speak with his father and call him up in October.”

As of now there has been no clarification from either Zizou or Enzo. “Nothing has been decided. To date, Enzo has not yet been selected by Spain or France. And I think its better that way… If Spain called him, it will be good, and if it is France, it will be good too… For now he enjoys football with Real Madrid, that’s the most important” said the three time FIFA World Player of The Year

Though playing either for France or Spain U-17 level would not rule him out to play for other nationalities it future, it is believed that first choice would be the final choice. The decision will no doubt be a tricky one for both Enzo and his father and even more so considering the fact that behind the eldest son there are two more boys, Luca and Theo, both of whom would presumably follow in the footsteps of their big brother.
