According to reports, Arsenal midfielder Andrei Arshavin is ready to retire from football. Arshavin will turn 32 next month, and is two months away from when his contract expires. Arsenal, presently, are not showing any interest in handing the Russian a new deal.

Arshavin joined Arsenal in February 2009 for a staggering £15 million, the transfer value being a club record. Arshavin has lost his appetite for football and finds himself frozen out at Arsenal, while there have not been too many teams showing an active interest in him. Arsenal have spread the news of Arshavin being available over the last few transfer windows, but his high wages have been a deterrent in a move away.

The Russian has represented Arsenal only twice this year, in the Capital One Cup against Coventry and Reading. Reading made concrete efforts to sign Arshavin, but the player refused to join a team who were at the bottom of the table. Arshavin might continue playing football if an offer comes up, but otherwise could hang up his boots by the end of the season.
