"He's such a tough bugger" - Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge provides Cody Weightman injury update after elbow dislocation

The Western Bulldogs look set to face an extended period without talented forward Cody Weightman after he suffered a dislocated elbow in their loss against Fremantle on April 27. This is not the first time the forward has dislocated his elbow and the Bulldogs will be concerned about his fitness moving forward.

The 23-year-old dislocated his elbow in 2022, then again during the round three over West Coast. Although he was able to see out the game against West Coast for the Western Bulldogs, Cody Weightman appears to have suffered another dislocation against Fremantle.

The Bulldogs lost the game 14.11(95) to 10.11(71) and will have to plan for a future run of games potentially without Weightman. The forward is expected to undergo scans for the injury, with surgery being a possibility.

Speaking on the incident after the game, Western Bulldogs coach, Luke Beveridge said:

"It's that elbow again, so I don't know whether we need to have something done with that. Ultimately, we hope he's OK but we will need to have it looked at again and we need to take a long-term approach with him. It's not that our staff haven't, it's just that he's such a tough bugger. He stays on the ground after these injuries. So it's even a surprise that he couldn't get going as in the past he somehow has found a way."

Cody Weightman will hope he can make a speedy recovery, with the 23-year-old forward forming a key part of the Bulldog's setup.

Cody Weightman optimistic about the Western Bulldogs season despite early difficulties

Western Bulldogs forward Cody Weightman has remained optimistic about his team's chances following a tough week. The 23-year-old has admitted that he looks forward to taking the lessons he learned from the run with his team and heading on to have a good campaign.

Speaking to Fox Sports, Weightman said:

“I think the monkey’s off the back for eight days, which is nice. Last week was pretty sh**ty, so it’ll be good to feel a little relaxed, but I don’t think we’ll be getting off the pedal because we’re going to have to go again, obviously. Every team’s good this year, so (Beveridge will) probably keep us a little bit on edge and ready to go for next week.”

Cody Weightman will hope they can put their difficult run behind them moving forward. However, the 23-year-old will have to regain his fitness after he suffered another elbow injury in three years.
