Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce ran a superb race to claim gold in the women’s 100m final at the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow. She outran a strong field that featured the second fastest woman in the world as well as five other women who have a personal best of under 10.9 seconds.

Fraser-Pryce was quick off the blocks but USA’s English Gardener kept up the chase in the first 50 metres before fading towards the second half. The Jamaican soon pulled away to open up a sizable lead before winning by a huge 0.22 seconds margin – the biggest ever in this event at the World Championships. She had last won the title at the 2009 Worlds.

Murielle Ahoure from the Ivory Coast took silver in 10.93 seconds while defending champion Carmelita Jeter of the United States finished with the bronze just 0.01 seconds behind Ahoure, who became the first African woman to win a World Championships medal.

Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare, who was seen as one of the favourites, finished a disappointing sixth with a time outside of 11 seconds.
