Kidambi Srikanth has the most favourable draw

After a lull, the world’s best shuttlers will be back in action on Wednesday, March 14 as the 108th edition of the All England Open gets under way at Birmingham. The Indian challenge is led by the top trio of PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and Saina Nehwal.

Nehwal has the most experience at this tournament, having reached the final in 2015. But the former World No. 1 also has the toughest draw this time with her first round opponent being the top seed and World No. 1 Tai Tzu Ying.

Sindhu’s best record at the world’s oldest badminton tournament is a quarter-final finish, which she achieved last year. The India No. 1 has a relatively comfortable opener against the former World Junior Championships silver medallist Pornpawee Chochuwong.

Among the three, Kidambi Srikanth has the easiest draw. The Guntur-born ace has never managed to make it past the second round and would be eager to better his record this time. He takes on the 23rd ranked Brice Leverdez in the first round.

Indian shuttlers will also be fighting it out in men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles sections.
