Anand Pawar survives the Qualifications to face Long Chin in the first round

Yonex Denmark Open is off to a flying start from 15th October, 2013. On day one, the tournament started with qualification rounds and clashes of Mixed Doubles events. In qualification encounters, only Anand Pawar from India managed to find his way to march towards the main draws.

He battled with Dieter Domke of Germany to register a straight game win to clear the qualification round. Earlier in his first round of qualification match against Flemming Quach, he accepted the tough fight and won by 26-24 and 21-15. Later in the second round of qualification, he managed to defeat Domke by 21-7 and 21-17.

Another Indian player K Srikanth performed well in the first round of qualification and defeated Christian Lind Thomsen by 21-13 and 21-8 in a half hour match. But in the second qualifier he lost against Kento Momota. The match scored 21-19, 10-21 and 21-17. In a 60 minute battle, after losing his first game, he came back strongly and won the second game by a big margin. But in the final decisive game he failed to keep the momentum going and lost it.

The other Players who failed to succeed in the qualifiers were Sourabh Verma and H S Prannoy. They lost to their Estonian and Japanese opponents respectively in their first round of qualifiers.

In the first main round draw of Mixed Doubles category, Tarun Kona and Ashwini Ponnappa lost to Yong Dae Lee and Seung Chan Shin of Korea by 14-21 and 13-21.

On Wednesday, Saina Nehwal , P.V. Sindhu, Gurusaidutt R.V.M., Kashyap Parupalli, Arundhati Pantawane, Ajay Jayaram, Anand Pawar will represent India in Singles category. While Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy B. will lock horns in the Mixed Doubles category.
