Latest BWF Rankings: Kashyap climbs one spot to 10, Saina clings on to no. 2 position

India’s top ranked men’s singles player Parupalli Kashyap moved up one spot to be ranked 10th in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on Thursday.

It may be worth recalling that the country’s highest men’s singles shuttler had bowed out in the first round of the Yonex Sunrise Indian Open to former world number one Taufiq Hidayat in an absorbing three-game affair.

Kashyap’s best recent performance this year has been a quarterfinal finish in the prestigious All England Badminton Championships.

India’s badminton icon Saina Nehwal continues to cling on to her world number two ranking in the women’s singles category. PV Sindhu, who won the Yonex Malaysian Open – her maiden senior singles crown – climbed two spots to hold the number 11 ranking.

Among the other Indian men, RMV Gurusaidutt advanced two spots to be placed at 25th to be the second highest ranked men’s singles player after Parupalli Kashyap.

Ajay Jayaram also moved up two places to be ranked 28th.

Sourabh Varma, dropped one notch to be placed 37th.

Anand Pawar, who reached the semifinal of the Yonex Indian Open, where he lost to Japan’s Kenchi Tago, jumped one spot to be placed 41st. Anand had earlier reached the third round of the Yonex Australian Open.

K Srikanth, who shocked Jan O Jorgensen in the first round of the Yonex Indian Open, jumped two places to be at 45th.

B Sai Praneeth advanced one spot to occupy the 56th place.

HS Pranoy, who grabbed the eyeballs when he reached the semifinals of the Polish Open, and later made it to the quarterfinals of the Indian Open, managed jumped two places to be 65th.

Arvind Bhat retained his last week’s ranking of 70. Same was the case old warhorse Chetan Anand, who stayed put at 83rd.

Anup Sridhar also moved up one spot to be ranked 101st.

Among the other Indian women, Arundhati Pantawane, whose best performance this year has been a semifinal finish at the recent Polish Open, advanced two spots to be ranked 75th.

PC Thulsai, another semifinalist at the Polish Open moved up one place to be 86th.

Tanvi Lad, who made it to the quarterfinals of the Polish Open, slipped five places to be 90th.

Sayali Gokhale moved up one spot to be ranked 99th.

Saili Rane slipped two places to be ranked 108th, while Sarada Jasti also advanced one spot to be ranked 115th.
