Latest WBF Rankings: Saina drops to no.4 spot, Kashyap slips one spot to 11th

India’s badminton icon Saina Nehwal dropped two places to number four in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on Thursday. Saina paid a price for her early exits in the recent Thailand and Djarum Indonesian Open tournaments where she lost in the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively.

Germant’s Juliane Schenk replaces the Indian as the new world number two. Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon has moved to number three from number five last week.

India’s top ranked men’s singles player Parupalli Kashyap also droped one spot to 11.

It may be worth recalling that the country’s highest men’s singles shuttler had fallen by the wayside in the first round of the Singapore Open.

His best recent performance this year has been a quarterfinal finish in the prestigious All England Badminton Championships.

PV Sindhu, who won the Yonex Malaysian Open – her maiden senior singles crown – and later opted out of the Djaram Indonesian Open, fell one spot to number 12.

Among the other Indian men, RMV Gurusaidutt stays put at 23rd.

Ajay Jayaram, who reached the quarterfinals of the Sunrise Indian Open and the Skycity New Zealand Open earlier in the open, stays put at 25th spot.

Anand Pawar retained his last week’s ranking of 38. It may be pertinent to mention that he had reached the semifinal of the Yonex Indian Open, where he lost to Japan’s Kenchi Tago.

Sourabh Varma advanced five spots to occupy the 37th position.

K Srikanth, who won his maiden singles crown last week – cornering glory at the Thailand Open moved up two spots to be ranked 42nd.

B Sai Praneeth jumped seventeen places to occupy the 44thh spot.

HS Pranoy, who reached the quarterfinals of the Thailand Open, fell one spot to be placed 54th.

Arvind Bhat stayed put at 70th.

Old warhorse Chetan Anand, who reached the semifinals of the Maldives international tournament, retained his last week’s ranking of of 77.

Anup Sridhar advanced one spot to be ranked 108th.

Among the other Indian women, Arundhati Pantawane, whose best performance this year has been a semifinal finish at the recent Polish Open, advanced two spots to be ranked 59th.

PC Thulsai, another semifinalist at the Polish Open stayed put at 80th.

Tanvi Lad continues to be perched at 84th position.

Sayali Gokhale stays put at 100th position.
