Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy moved into the quarters

In a tight contest, the Indian Men’s Doubles pairing of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy moved into the quarterfinals of the US Open Grand Prix Gold after beating Hirokatsu Hashimoto and Noriyasu Hirata of Japan 21-18 14-21 21-19 in just over an hour on Thursday.

Game 1 saw a neck-and-neck contest between the two pairs, with both players exchanging leads but it was the Indian pair, who held their nerve and clinched the game at the 18-18 mark by winning 3 points on the trot to take a one game advantage.

The second game started off in similar fashion as the first as both players matched one another point-for-point but it was the turn of the Japanese pair who broke the deadlock at the 8-8 mark to eventually seal the game 14-21 in their favour.

It seemed like both pairs had saved their best for the decider as it proved to be riveting contest, but Attri and Reddy managed to hold their nerve once again, particularly at the 17-17 mark, by winning 4 out of the next 6 points to seal the game and match.

They will now face Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge of Great Britain in the quarters.
