Priceless Versatile Sindhu...On the way to becoming a Star

As expected, she has done it yet again, and proven her worth. She has shown the mettle she carries. The stats speak of themselves. Thanks to her contribution, P.V.Sindhu’s ongoing expedition has become perhaps the most sought after sports event for Indians, of course after the prestigious IPL. She has had a rapid growth in her fan following. Luck is also appearing to favor P.V.Sindhu, as due to withdrawal of others, she got top seed in the Malaysian Grand Prix Gold Badminton Tournament. By virtue of her hard work, she is gaining status and has already fetched a world ranking of 13th. All these factors have increased the hopes to new heights, and hopefully she’ll be able to meet our expectations as well as her own goals.

Now let us see her journey in the Malaysian event so far. The early clashes had nothing worth mentioning. But then two consecutive wins, that too in a single day, have shown the hard work, contentment and the strong will power poured in by her. Though she did not have much time to relax and review her performance in the Indian Open, as she had to fly to Malaysia – that very evening she lost the semi final.

The young dynamic shuttler is really giving her best. She is going to make it big again, and this proved true when she defeated third seed Tearattanachai of Thailand in the semi final in two straight games (though expected from a top seed). Although she really had a bad start when the opponent was ahead by 6 vital points (the score was 10-16 then), but then here came the turning point. Not did she cover up the lag, but took the score to 19-16 and did not allow her opponent to draw a single point.

Now, before moving to the next game of the Malaysian Open, I would like to remember the semi final performance of Sindhu in the Indian Open. If you recall that match, in the second game her rival took the lead and a bit demoralised Sindhu lost her rhythm & could not recover. But here in the Malaysian Semi final, she fought back gracefully. In the second game, the quality play of Sindhu was clearly visible. This young player took a lead of 4-0 and all she had to do was to sustain the early lead till the end. She had to keep up the momentum and she got the desired result, as the final score was 21-11. Ultimately, this led to her winning the match with ease in just 34 minutes.

Up till now she has shown her skills and most importantly the confidence, with an ability to move around possessively and smartly on the court. She is also improvising when needed, to make the returns perfectly and particularly utilising her strength in the smash shots.

Hopefully, following the same pattern, she will be playing well against Juan Gu of Singapore, and would give us another chance to smile. In Sindhu’s own words, Juan Gu is a tough opponent and she will need to raise her game in order to win.

Best wishes Priceless Versatile Sindhu.
