Saina Nehwal !!

During a time when the whole country is getting bitten by the football bug , a significant achievement is going unnoticed , a feat which is exemplary and commendable in terms of the standards meted out by Indians in the world of sports . Saina Nehwal , the young badminton sensation has jumped three places to be ranked at an all time high of world no 3 according to the rankings released by the world badminton association . Saina is sandwiched between 4 chinese players in the top 5 and there are even more hopes of her climbing to the elusive numero uno position as she is winning every title at sight .

After two title wins at the Singapore open and the Indian open , she started her quest for a hattrick of titles on a winning note at the djarum Indonesian open which started yesterday . The Indian, however, was fully stretched by South Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun over 60 minutes before prevailing to a 22-20, 17-21, 21-14 win to move into the second round. Saina will take on Bulgaria’s Petya Nedelcheva in the second round. The Bulgarian beat Germany’s Nicole Grether.

Saina has never been overawed by her current position and has always tried to gain maximum experience . She has had her low moments when she failed to win any medals for India at the Olympics and other events but she has come back strongly . ably guided by the legend of badminton of his time , Pullela Gopichand , she is going places . Significant contributions have also come from Olympic gold quest who have been sponsoring her for some time now .

This is really a proud moment for indian sports which has been craving for a world champion. With proper guidance she might be able to fulfil that dream at the commonwealth games and the asian games slated later this year.
