This Indian wonder girl has done it once again and this time it’s not just being the finalist but the winner. P.V. Sindhu has won the Swiss International 2011 by defeating Carol Butt of Germany 21-11, 21-11. The most interesting fact about this win was that she was unseeded in the tournament but she emerged the winner without losing a single set.
Playing her first match of the tournament against the Danish player Camila Sorensen on 21st Oct, she completely dominated the match from the very 1st point and won the match quite easily by 21-7,21-15. Then the next day she had to play 4th seeded Judith Mulendijks of Netherlands. Although Sindhu had defeated this player in Yonex Dutch Open a few days ago, this was a new day and a new game But the story was repeated here as well as Sindhu completely outclassed the Dutch player, hence winning the match quite easily 21-10,21-16. Then in the next match she defeated 5th seeded and world ranking 56 German player Karin Schnaase by 21-10,21-12.
In the semifinals Super Sensational Sindhu had to play the tournament 2nd seeded and world ranked 42 Jeanine Cicognini of Switzerland. In women’s doubles the Indian pair of Pradnya Gadre and Prajakta Sawant defeated the Swiss pair of Marion Gruber and Sanya Herzig by a scoreline of 21-9,21-16. The Indian pair, who were unseeded and with a world ranking of 111, defeated some very high ranked players in their previous rounds.
