Top seed Indian shuttlers move to pre-quarterfinals of Yonex-Sunrise Asia Badminton Championships

New Delhi, 14 April 2010: Top seed Saina Nehwal, Taufik Hidayat, Jwala Guta and Diju V cleared the first hurdle comfortably at the Yonex-Sunrise Asia Badminton Championships 2010. The week long premier Asian tournament is being played at the state-of-the-art Siri Fort sports complex.

Ace Indian shuttler and top seed Saina Nehawal defeated Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thialand in straight sets of 21-10, 21-13 in the first round. Saina now faces Malaysian shuttler Julia Pei Xian Wong in the pre-quarterfinals to be played tomorrow. Similarly, top seed mixed doubles pair, Jwala Guta and Diju V of India defeated Wai Hong Wong and Hoi Wah Chau from Hong Kong in straight sets of 21-13, 21-12.

In men’s singles event, tournament top seed ace Indonesian shuttler Taufik Hidayat made his way to the third round after defeating Ha Anh Le from Vietnam in straight sets of 21-10, 21-16. India’s Anand Pawar lost to second seed Chinese shuttler Lin Dan in straight sets of 14-21, 13-21. Lin Dan now meets Tien Chen Chou of Chinese Taipei in the pre-quarterfinal round.

13th seed Indian shuttler, P. Kashyap moved to the third round defeating Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia in straight sets of 21-14 and 21-16. He now faces Yun Hu of Hong Kong tomorrow.

In the women’s singles Chinese Taipei’s Hsiao Huan Chen gave a tough fight to Indian shuttler Aditi Mutatkar but lost with a score of 21-11, 17-21 and 21-18 on board.
