World Badminton Rankings: Saina retains no.4 spot, Kashyap moves up to 13th

Indian badminton icon Saina Nehwal continues to hold the number four spot in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings.

China’s Li Xuerui holds the number one spot in the women’s singles category while Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon remains the number two spot. Germany’s Juliane Schenk continues to hold the number three slot, while China’s Wang Yihan is at number 5.

India’s top ranked men’s singles player Parupalli Kashyap, who reached the pre-quarterfinals of the World Badminton Championships in Guangzhou, moved up one spot to 13th position. He had turned out for Banga Beats in the much-hyped Indian Badminton League (IBL).

Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei continues to the hold the numero uno spot in the men’s singles category. The Chinese duo of Chen Long and Du Pengyu retain the number two and three spots respectively.

PV Sindhu, who bagged a bronze at the recent World Championship, remains at the 10th spot.

Among the other Indian men, RMV Gurusaidutt stayed put at 20th spot, Ajay Jayaram advanced one place to be to 24th, Sourabh Varma retained last week’s ranking of 36, Anand Pawar (son of former India international Uday Pawar) climbed two spots to hold the 37th ranking.

B Sai Praneeth fell one spot to occupy the 38th spot while K Srikanth dropped one spot to 39th. HS Pranoy retained his ranking of 56 from last week. Arvind Bhat moved up one spot to 88th, while old warhorse Chetan Anand retained his ranking of 99.

Among the Indian women, Arundhati Pantawane moved up one spot to 51st, while PC Thulasi jumped three places to occupy the 71st spot. Tanvi Lad climbed six places to be ranked 77th while Sayali Gokhale slipped two places to 99th.
