World Badminton Rankings: Saina stays at no.4, Kashyap moves up to 13th spot

Indian badminton icon Saina Nehwal continues to hold the number four spot in the latest World Badminton Federation (BWF) rankings.

China’s Li Xuerui holds the pride of place in the women’s singles category. Thailand’s rising star Ratchanok Intanon continues to hold the number two spot.

Germany’s Juliane Schenk is still perched at number three slot, while China’s Wang Yihan is placed fifth.

Saina will be making her first international appearance after playing in the inaugural Indian Badminton League (IBL) – she gave the Japan Open Super Series event a miss in order to recover from the stress of playing in the league.

The Indian badminton star is expected to feature in the Yonex Denmark Open Super Series Premier event slated to be held in Odense from October 15.

PV Sindhu, who bagged a bronze at this year’s World Championship, remains at 10th spot.

India’s top ranked men’s singles player Parupalli Kashyap, who reached the pre-quarterfinals of the World Badminton Championships in Guangzhou, and turned out for Banga Beats in the much-hyped Indian Badminton League (IBL), moved up one place to occupy the 13th spot.

Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei continues to the hold the numero uno spot in the men’s singles category. The Chinese duo of Chen Long and Du Pengyu retained the number two and three spots respectively.

Among the other Indian men, RMV Gurusaidutt edged up one spot to be placed 23rd.

Ajay Jayaram also advanced one place to occupy the 25th spot.

K Srikanth moved up one place to be ranked 32nd.

Anand Pawar, son of former India international Uday Pawar, also moved up a notch to be placed 33rd.

B Sai Praneeth stayed put at 39th spot.

HS Pranoy retained the previous week’s ranking of 42.

However, Sourabh Varma was the lone shuttler in the top-50 bracket to drop a place to be ranked 44th.

Arvind Bhat retained the previous week’s ranking of 83.

Anup Sridhar surged twenty-five places to be ranked 94th.

Old warhorse Chetan Anand fell two spots, dropping out of the top-100, and was placed 101st.

Among the Indian women, Arundhati Pantawane fell one place to be at 52nd spot, while Tanvi Lad slipped three places to occupy the 67st spot.

PC Thulasi stayed put at 73rd spot.
