Derrick Rose Shoes: Ranking all the Adidas D Rose Shoes

Adidas D Rose 7 Primeknit

Off-late Derrick Rose has not been at the top of his game. Even having a good season this late in his career, one cannot deny that his superstar status has begun to wear off, but Adidas seems to disagree with the amount of money they're still paying him.

Now when this deal was renegotiated in 2012, Derrick Rose was at his prime. He had just become one of the youngest MVP's and was killing it in the All-Star League. His deal, reportedly $185 Million over 14 years made since then, but unfortunately, his career has been on a steady downward decline since then.

With all that said and done, Derrick Rose has put out some super signature shoes over the years. Here is a ranking list.

Adidas D Rose 733 IV (Blue/Red)

The Adidas D Rose 733 IV seems to be a team shoe. This model reinforced the fact that this pairing between Adidas and Derrick Rose was made to make shoes that give you bang for the buck while retaining the simple style and high-quality feel. Here is a rundown on the good and the bad of the shoe.

Good:

  • The traction pattern on the shoe is highly effective and offers great stopping power
  • The rubber outsole not only makes the shoes lightweight but also ensures that they do not squeak too much
  • The Bounce in the midsole and padding at the back makes these shoes very comfortable
  • The shoes are breathable, simple and most importantly affordable

Bad:

  • The outsole of these shoes is not durable enough to withstand outdoor play
  • The shoes tend to run a little narrow, and the shape leaves a lot of dead space in the toe area
  • The straps on the shoe are purely aesthetic and the shoe does not offer good ankle lockdown

Overall, these shoes are great at their price point of $110. They act as an overall team shoe and are not specifically made for any position. they are durable enough to last over a season and there is nothing to not like about the basic design.

#3 Adidas D Rose 733 III

Adidas D Rose 733 III (white/blue)

This shoe was mainly made for the position Derrick Rose plays at. Its built with great cushioning for fast moving guards. It also includes ADIPRENE+ technology with the same classic look of the old-school basketball shoes. Here is why its good and why it's not.

Good:

  • The traction is really good, it allows for precise stopping both indoors and outdoors
  • The shoes offer enough room for ankle braces
  • The leather used on the outside of the shoe makes it both durable and lightweight
  • The mesh feels high quality allows the shoe to be breathable
  • The shoes are durable enough to be used on outdoor courts as well as indoor courts

Bad:

  • The shoe does not accommodate wide-footers
  • The shoe has a long break-in time for both the cushion and the traction
  • The traction does not perform well on dusty indoor courts
  • The outer leather creases easily and the ankle area has some deas space

All in all, at the $115 price point the shoes are a good full package and the Adidas D Rose 733 III offers everything you need in a decent outdoor basketball shoe. There are a few issues such as lockdown, but it is definitely worth the money.

#2 Adidas D Rose 5 Boost

Adidas D Rose 5 Boost "Home" (white/red)

Bringing Boost to a premium basketball shoe was a great idea by Adidas. With the new D Rose range, they were able to move away from the old style Derrick Rose was sticking to and put in a bunch of great features into a pair of killer looking basketball shoes. Here is the rundown of how this move from the old to the new did.

Good:

  • Like the first few Adidas D Rose shoes, this one also has impeccable traction
  • The shoes are durable on both indoor and outdoor courts
  • The Spin-web technology works extremely well and keeps feet from getting sweaty and moist
  • The bounce provided by the midsole offers lots of comfort
  • The hell support provided by TPU makes the sole very comfortable

Bad:

  • The uppers of the shoes remain stiff even after it is broken into
  • The shoes lack arch support
  • The material creases and scratches quickly
  • The shoelaces are not durable whatsoever

At the end of the day, other than the shoelaces the Adidas D Rose 5 are definitely a good purchase to make that will last a few seasons. These shoes are packed with premium Adidas technology but are still offered at a much lower price than their competitors.

#1 Adidas D Rose 7 Primeknit

Right when Adidas came out with their mesh shoe, they pushed it aside for even better technology with the D Rose 7 Primeknit. They did push up the price from the regular version, but if Derrick Rose swears by the technology, who are we to complain. Here is the rundown of the performance of the shoe.

Good:

  • The shoe is comfortable straight out of the box, it requires little to no break-in time
  • The traction is great and leads to unbelievable on-court performance
  • The Primeknot technology makes the show look more plush and expensive than it costs
  • The external TPU on the heel avoids slippage
  • The Boost technology in these shoes helps avoid knee and back pain

Bad:

  • The outsole is soft and tends to accumulate dust causing stoppage issues
  • The Primeknit it a thin fabric and causes the toes to hit the toebox at times

In totality, this is a great pair of basketball shoes. It has brought premium quality and technology to a more affordable segment while retaining the classy look. With great fit and support the D Rose 7 Primeknit is the best pair the Adidas- Derrick Rose collab has produced till date.
