Bronny James scouting report: How does LeBron James' son compare to other prospects in his draft class?

Bronny James' scouting report is starting to look quite good. LeBron James’ oldest son is expected to join the 2024 NBA Draft, which makes his basketball profile very interesting.

The Sierra Canyon senior basketball star is starting to turn heads with his improved play before he plays college basketball or joins the G League.

James Jr. is reportedly mulling over his options, which include six schools that are willing to give him a scholarship. Kentucky, Memphis, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon and USC have supposedly informed the most scrutinized high school basketball player of their interest in recruiting him.

Whichever school lands him will be getting a potential star in their hands. Here’s Jonathan Givony of Draft Express providing part of Bronny James' scouting report:

“As most of his peers have flatlined over the past 12-18 months, James has grown, filled out his frame, found another gear with his explosiveness, and has become an absolute terror off the ball defensively thanks to his outstanding intensity and feel for the game.”

Almost two years ago, most scouts considered him a potential diamond in the rough. Some were even thinking that the only way he could be drafted was because LeBron James vowed to play with his son before retiring.

Bronny James’ surge in form has given him more opportunities to showcase his talents. He was selected to be part of the McDonald’s All-American team. “King James” also congratulated his son for making it to the 13-man roster for USA basketball, which will be played at the Nike Hoop Summit.

These two aforementioned accomplishments alone are undeniable that he has made strides in his basketball journey. The LA Lakers superstar has always been pushing his sons to get better and it's paying dividends for James Jr.

Bronny James' scouting report is far less terrifying compared to what his father brought to the table more than 20 years ago. But there’s no doubt that he’s turning out to be a player that could make an impact on both ends of the floor.

Comparing Bronny James' scouting report to that of D.J. Wagner

Bronny James’ biggest strengths are his elite on-ball defense, ability to absorb contact and explosive athleticism. ESPN has regularly aired many of his thunderous dunks that even opposing fans sometimes cheer on.

His shooting and playmaking are decent enough, but these are areas that he should work on. He is reportedly more advanced on the defensive end than on offense.

D.J. Wagner, who’s considered the best shooting guard in this year’s class, is touted as a smooth operator on offense.

Wagner’s shooting, playmaking and pure ability to get buckets are outstanding. He’s projected to be a guaranteed lottery pick because of his vast and elite offensive skills.

Unlike Bronny James, though, the Kentucky Wildcats' upcoming rookie needs more fine-tuning on the defensive side of the ball. Wagner also needs to build more strength to absorb contact, particularly against bigger defenders in college.

James Jr. still has more than a year to further develop his game before the 2024 NBA Draft. It will be interesting to see how Bronny James’ scouting report will look several months from today.
