Draymond Green doubts Memphis Grizzlies' credentials after Ja Morant's bold statement about Western Conference

Draymond Green has never been scared to call out opposing teams and players. His latest target is one of the game's most up-and-coming stars in the point guard position.

After outdoing expectations last season, the Memphis Grizzlies are right back at the top of the standings. Led by Ja Morant, they are second in the Western Conference with a record of 24-13.

During a recent interview, Morant was asked about teams he was scared of in the NBA. The only group mentioned was the Boston Celtics. He doubled down on this statement by saying he isn't worried about anyone in the West.

After hearing this comment, Draymond Green couldn't sit by without responding. During a recent episode of "The Draymond Green Show," the former Defensive Player of the Year gave his thoughts on Morant's comments:

"You are fine Ja, you are. But the Warriors are in the West now champ. So yes, you are fine Ja. The Grizzlies on the other hand, that's a topic for another day."

Draymond Green adds fuel to NBA's newest rivalry

Dating back to last year, the NBA might have had the birth of its newest rivalry. After the Golden State Warriors knocked out the Memphis Grizzlies in the playoffs, Ja Morant and company have wanted revenge.

One of the people continuing to hype the beef between these two teams is Draymond Green. Outside of his podcast, he also took to Twitter when he found out that Golden State and Memphis made the Christmas Day slate.

Draymond Green and the Warriors backed up their talk by taking care of business when the two teams squared off on Dec. 25. Without Steph Curry in the lineup, they walked away with a 123-109 victory.

Morant backed up his talk with 36 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, but couldn't get his team a win. Green ended the night with a rare rebound-assist double-double.

Morant should be applauded for his confidence as a leader, but it might be time to pump the breaks a little. The Western Conference is loaded with talented rosters, including Green's Warriors.

Luckily for the Grizzlies, Christmas was not the last time they will see their new rival. The two teams meet again on Jan. 25 at Golden State.

It's clear there is animosity between these two squads. The Grizzlies want to claim the top spot for themselves, but the Warriors aren't ready to close the books on their dynasty just yet.
