Chris Paul wants to own a WNBA and NBA team after retirement

At 39, "CP3" is the third oldest active player in the NBA behind LeBron James and PJ Tucker. As the 12-time NBA All-Star nears retirement, Paul shared his interest in remaining close to the game by owning a WNBA and an NBA team during a recent interview with Forbes.

"I would love to own a WNBA team and an NBA team," Paul said.

When asked further about which NBA team he had in mind, Paul said he is open to owning a team in his hometown, Charlotte, while being open to other opportunities as well. Paul also cited his experience in the league and knowledge regarding the dynamics of operating a basketball team to reason his plans to own a WNBA or NBA team.

"Charlotte is home but I'm open. Especially if there is an expansion or something like that," Paul said.
"I've been involved with the league for too long. From every aspect of it. Just knowing the game, understanding the GMs, the players relations-- all the different entities, that's definitely one of my goals is to own a team."

Having played 19 seasons in the NBA, CP3 has accumulated over $359 million in salaries and is awaiting to see if the Golden State Warriors pick up a $30 million player option for the next season.

The 11-time All-NBA player concluded the 2023-24 regular season averaging 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 1.2 steals as the Golden State Warriors were eliminated for the season by the Sacramento Kings in the Play-In Tournament.
