Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has been electric on the court ever since returning from the infamous gun accident that sidelined him from eight games. Since then, he has steered clear of any off-court altercations or issues that could further tarnish his name as he prepares himself for a deep playoff run with his teammates.

However, in an article written by Gus Garcia-Roberts for "The Washington Post," Ja Morant also got into an altercation with Busby, a shoe salesman, wherein, he threatened the employee after having an altercation with his mom. As he looked back on the incident, Busby talked about how he felt at the time in a phone interview with Gus Garcia-Roberts.

"I thought, ‘Oh, he’s really trying to get me,” Busby said. “Like, he’s trying to hurt me."

Busby, the shoe salesman, mentioned how Morant's mother accused him of prioritzing two white women over her and started following him around when her preferred shoe was no longer available. Ja's mother, Jamie Morant, threatened the salesman by telling him that she would call her son, which resulted in the store's managers sending Busby into the back of the store for his safety.

The situation got more out of hand as Ja Morant arrived at the scene and kept asking for Busby to the point where Morant even waited in the store until his shift was over. After Ja finally left the store, Busby went on to file a report with the Memphis Police Precint regarding the incident.

However, Ja Morant was not listed as a suspect along with his mother being recorded as "unknown." Busby, who lost his $9.25 per hour pay for the rest of that day, felt as if he was not being heard by the police due to Morant's stature as a basketball icon playing for the Memphis Grizzlies. To make matters worse, Busby was saving up for his next semester of college.

Ja Morant's public issues

As Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies (50-30) prepare for the playoffs with the regular season ending in a few days, the last thing the team needs is further outside noise.

Ja Morant has been included in numerous off-court allegations throughout the regular season like the IG live gun incident, pointing lasers at members of the Indiania Pacers' traveling party and now with another troubling altercation with a shoe salesman, as reported by Gus Garcia-Roberts from "The Washington Post."

Depending on how the team handles their business on the court with all of the outside noise surrounding them, Ja's troubling history as of late in the public is not something to be taken lightly even after being suspended by the league.
