Malik Monk contract details with the Sacramento Kings

On Friday night in Los Angeles, Malik Monk and the Sacramento Kings put on one of the most spectacular comebacks in recent memory. After a back-and-forth game, the LA Clippers began to pull away with the lead. Then, like something out of a movie, the Kings started to pull themselves right back into the game.

At the end of regulation, the score was all tied up, and the game went into overtime. There, the two teams both continued to battle it out, ultimately going into double overtime in order to settle things. By the time the final buzzer sounded, Malik Monk had scored a career-high 45 points to give the Kings a 176-175 win over the Clippers.

After Monk's sensational performance, many began to wonder about his contract with the Sacramento Kings as the team looks to make a playoff push. Considering the Kings finished last season in 12th place in the West, their surge this season that currently sees them sit in third has Sacramento fans excited.

Currently, Monk is in the first of a two-year $19.4M deal which sees him earning $9.4M this season with the Kings. Next season he will enter the final year of his contract and earn $9.9M with the team before hitting free agency at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Malik Monk's play this season and his impact on the Kings

Malik Monk has proven himself as one of the best sixth men in the league this season. For the former number 11 pick, he's been on fire this season after spending last season with the LA Lakers. Although he has averaged career highs across the board in scoring, steals, assists, rebounding, and field goal percentage, this season has been even better.

With over 56 games played, Monk is now averaging career highs in scoring with 13.0ppg and assisting, with 3.9apg. During that time, head coach Mike Brown has been adamant that Monk deserves consideration for Sixth Man of the Year. Back in November, Brown made the case for Monk to media members.

Last night's performance certainly helped his case. After the game, Brown spoke to media members in attendance to heap praise on Malik Monk and the team's offensive coordinator, saying:

"Malik, Malik was unbelievable. The shot that he hit to send the game into overtime ... Malik hit a big time shot. But Malik's ability to get into the paint and finish at the rim through contact, to get out in transition. His poise shooting the baskebtall, his defense, it was all huge.
"He and Foxy, I mean between the two of them, 87 points? I don't know if I've ever seen that. Maybe I have, but that is remarkable."
