When can Ja Morant return to Memphis Grizzlies?

After being suspended by the Memphis Grizzlies, many are wondering when Ja Morant will return to the court. Following the latest reporting, it seems like the All-Star point guard could be out for quite some time.

During a recent appearance on "FanDuel TV," NBA insider Shams Charania gave the latest on a possible Ja Morant return. He cited that the team isn't expecting this situation to be dealt with anytime soon.

"The expectation within the team is that this could be an extended absence. Something that could be for the foreseeable future.
"More stringent penalities could come from the league, could come from the police."

Timing of Ja Morant return could make or break the Memphis Grizzlies' season

At this point in the year, news like this is devastating. The Memphis Grizzlies have been one of the top teams in the Western Conference all season, and could now be without their best player for the foreseeable future.

Prior to this ordeal, Ja Morant was in the midst of taking another step towards becoming one of the NBA's top superstars. In 53 games this year, he is averaging 27.1, 6.0 rebounds and 8.2 assists.

When and if we see Ja Morant's return will be the make-or-break of the Grizzlies' playoff hopes. While they have a talented roster, they won't be able to hang around with the top teams in the West without their electrifying point guard.

As the postseason approaches, there are multiple teams in the Western Conference with finals aspirations. The Phoenix Suns sit atop that list after they pulled off a mega-deal at the deadline the bring in Kevin Durant. Other potential contenders include the Denver Nuggets, LA Clippers and the Golden State Warriors.

For now, all the Grizzlies can do is weather the storm. With multiple investigations underway right now, there is no telling when this will all be said and done. The team also has to prepare for a worst-case scenario in which Morant is handed a hefty suspension by the league.

As all this unfolds, the only hope right now is that Morant is getting the help he needs to get his life back on track. He has a long career ahead of him, and it would be a shame for it to be hindered this early on.
