Since he was the seventh overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft, many were expecting a lot from the young Pistons guard. However, Hayes had an underwhelming rookie year and hasn't exactly upped his game since.

As a rookie, Hayes averaged 6.8 points, 5.3 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game. To be fair, he only played 28 games that season. Unfortunately, nothing changed in his sophomore season. Hayes played 66 games in the 2021-22 season and averaged pretty much the same stats. He put up 6.9 points, 4.2 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game.

The same can be said for the young Hayes in the current NBA season. As of November 29, he is averaging a slightly higher 7.3 points, accompanied by 4.5 assists, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game. Despite scoring a bit higher this season, Hayes is having his worst shooting year so far with 34.6% FG. However, he did manage to boost his 3-point shooting to the 30% mark.
