Railways have not been able to reach the semi finals of the Ranji Trophy. Bengal has won the match by 48 runs. But the important role of hardworking bowler Anureet Singh of Railways has definitely impressed one and all.

It is really commendable that he has got 9 wickets in the crucial quarter final match at Kolkata – but what is worth mentioning is his economy of 2.72 in the first innings and 2.80 in the second innings. This certainly proves his consistency, which is a result of the sweat and toil put in by him throughout his career.

His performance becomes even more important in view of the fact that he had to stay away from playing the game owing to his back injury. He was not given a chance to play for Railways in the first two matches of the current season of Ranji Trophy. He was called in only for the third match.

Kathuria Anureet Singh, who plays for Railways and for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, is a right hand bat and a right arm medium pace bowler. He will be completing 26 years of age on 2nd March 2014. Prior to this quarter final, he had played 29 first class matches and his bowling average is a very reasonable 26.77. He had taken 106 wickets in those 29 matches.

He made his debut in the year 2007, playing for Railways Under-22 in the C K Nayudu Trophy. Thereafter, he made his first class debut in the year 2008.

In fact, in his early days, this medium pacer wanted to excel in batting too. But when this talented boy from Delhi was totally ignored by the Delhi and District Cricket Association for a period of more than two years, he had no option but to migrate to the Railways team. There, under the capable guidance and nourishment of Abhay Sharma, the talented coach of Railways, the cricketing skills of Anureet Singh further blossomed and now he is ready to strike big.

Anureet Singh also feels grateful to his captain, Murali Kartik, who has not only imposed faith in his talent but also gave him valuable tips to maintain his line and length. When Anureet Singh followed the path shown by his skipper, the end result was a pleasant 9 wicket haul for him. We really hope that this talented young man continues to improve and earns an India jersey one day.
