The Cricket Valentine's Day Poem: Leave your date stumped

iplgeek

This man is probably one of the few guys who has left more people “stumped” than love has.

We’re just six days away from the month of February, which is rich with much-awaited events. The IPL auctions, Australia’s tour of South Africa, AB de Villiers’ birthday, and much more. However, there is one key event in February that is internationally recognized, by both cricket fan and cave man alike: Valentines Day. The day of love.

When you get together with someone special, and share intimate moments of passion, in many different ways. However, it is also when you feel inspired enough to break the bonds of timidity and pour your heart out to that special person. However, as with any action that has an impact as great as this, there is that “pre-match tension” that grips everyone, and forms doubts in their minds.

“Will it be good enough?” “Will she like it?” “What if she says no?” These are just some of the many doubts likely to come across your mind as well. Hence, if you’re stuck in a corner with no clue as to what you’re going to do, this post is for you. The poem below is designed to do what people like Muttiah Muralitharan enjoy doing: to have your date absolutely stumped for words.

Of course, we offer no guarantees, but armed with this poem (which is peppered with some of the best cricket allusions ever), you should have a decent shot. Good luck!

Dear (Whoever you want),

When I first saw you,

I felt like I was 18,

In Eden Gardens

Facing Narine and Steyn,

Just rooted to the spot,

Drinking in your stare,

Like an English batsmen

Under Johnson’s glare.

My heart stopped,

My eyes would not see,

Not because of Bad Light,

But because I had fallen for thee.

When you lifted one of those hands,

And softly whispered “hi”,

I felt like I had won the World Cup,

And soaring beyond the sky.

Your face was soft

and oh, so delicate,

Just like Mahela’s timing;

Not early and not late.

My love for you was soaring,

Like a tracer bullet,

Climbing like Virat Kohli,

It will stop at no summit.

It will rage on

With such ferocious pride

That even Gayle and Miller,

Will have to step aside.

If you fall, I’ll catch you,

With the agility of Raina,

Whether you’re here, or there,

Or even in China.

So all I’m trying to say,

Is that we’re meant for each other;

And we’re destined to make a partnership,

That will top even Dravid and Tendulkar.
