Dmitri Mascarenhas to retire from county cricket at the end of the season

Dmitri Mascarenhas has announced that he will retire from county cricket at the end of the current season. The Hampshire all-rounder, who has been struggling with injuries, has finally decided to end his county career.

“I feel I have so much left, but my Achilles just isn’t up to it and, as a result, I have to retire,” he said.

Mascarenhas has played for Hampshire for 18 years, helping the team lift five domestic trophies. He was appinted the captain of the team in 2008 and helped Hampshire win the 2009 Friends Provident Trophy and the Clydesdale Bank 40 campaign last season. He has scored more than 12,000 runs in all formats and has nearly 900 wickets to his name.

“It’s been the toughest decision of my life to call time on my career at Hampshire,” he added.
