Gautam Gambhir trying to 'rediscover his game'

In a recent interview to The Times of India, Gautam Gambhir opened a bit about his desire to get back into the team and said he is trying to do everything he can to get back to the run-scoring form.

On being asked about how well he has regained touch in batting which he had lost while touring with the Indian team, he said,”Well, this was a forced break. No sportsperson wants to be away from his sport. Perhaps I was not scoring as many runs as a batsman who has played over 50 Tests should. But you are right, the break did give me time to introspect and go back to the drawing board.

“In a way, you can say I’m trying to rediscover my game.”

He had also worked with former Indian cricketer WV Raman along with his coach for a few days. On being asked about his experience of working with him, Gambhir said, “I’ve been working on being positive at the crease — be it my thoughts, stance, getting into hitting a stroke, everything. With Raman sir and my coach Sanjay Bhardwaj, I’ve been trying to get into a positive groove, which sometimes gets lost in the pressures of international cricket.”

He believes that a shift to county cricket will surely help him re-develop his run scoring ability and a fruitful stint with Essex will make his preparations for getting back into the team even stronger.
