IPL 2018: 3 South African bowlers who can replace Kagiso Rabada

South Africa v Sri Lanka - 2nd ODI

With Kagiso Rabada being ruled out of the Indian Premier League just days before the season kicks off, the Delhi Daredevils will need to find an adequate replacement for the young fast bowler from South Africa.

There will be a lot of players whose names will be thrown around, but I believe that the way to go should be to replace a Protea with another Protea, especially since South Africa have no shortage of quality fast bowlers just ripe for the picking.

Whether this will be a popular opinion or not remains to be seen. However, there is no denying that the three Proteas fast bowlers featured on this list would make excellent and capable replacements for the young speedster.

#1 Morne Morkel

South Africa v England - First Test: Day Three

Morne Morkel recently retired from international cricket after the Test series between South Africa and Australia but has shown that he still has a lot to offer any bowling attack. The tall fast bowler went unsold at the IPL auction but this could be his chance to make his way into this season.

Morkel would be the ideal replacement for Rabada due to his pace and bounce and the Delhi Daredevils should give some serious thought to selecting this legend of a bowler.

#2 Kyle Abbott

Momentum ODI Series: 4th ODI: South Africa v Australia

Kyle Abbott has been somewhat of a forgotten name in international cricket ever since he gave up his international career in favour of a Kolpak deal, but those who remember him will know that he is a dangerous bowler who can change the game with any delivery.

Abbott may not have the pace and bounce which Rabada offers a bowling attack but does possess a lot of experience and talent in the bowling department. Some might consider him to be a surprise replacement if he is selected by the Delhi Daredevils, but he might just be a blessing in disguise for the franchise.

#3 Dale Steyn

2018 SA v India: South African national cricket team training session

Dale Steyn has not played much international cricket over the past two years due to multiple injuries and might be considered as a surprise inclusion on this list. The sensational fast bowler missed out on the recent test series between South Africa and Australia, with many fans wondering if this signals the end of his international career.

Steyn is adamant that he still has plenty in the tank and the IPL might be the perfect stage for him to show this. He is still regarded as one of the best fast bowlers in the word and there is no doubt that any batting lineup would be relieved not to have to face him.

While it is true that he will need some time to get back into the groove of things, it is highly unlikely that a lot of batsmen would easily dispatch him all over the park. The Delhi Daredevils would do well to include this icon on their team.
