Former Australia all-rounder James Hopes has been appointed the bowling coach of the Delhi Daredevils for the eleventh edition of the IPL. The 39-year-old will be working with his ex-captain Ricky Ponting, who is the head coach of the Delhi franchise.

Subhadeep Ghosh, ex-Assam and Railways first-class cricketer will take over as the fielding coach of the new-look franchise.

“Once our auction strategy paid off, it was time to also appoint key personnel in the coaching staff. Ricky [Ponting] has had great inputs in both the selection of players and the support staff. We are absolutely delighted to welcome both James [Hopes] and Subhadeep [Ghosh] into the Daredevils family", said Hemant Dua, CEO of the Delhi Daredevils.

“For James, it is a sort of homecoming as he has played for Delhi Daredevils earlier. Now he comes with immense experience both as a cricketer and a coach. He will be a great asset for the squad as we have some excellent young fast bowlers. Subhadeep (Ghosh) has been a specialist fielding coach for close to a decade at various levels in first-class cricket and the NCA. We are certain that he will add a lot of value to the squad,” added Mr. Dua.

Hopes played for the Delhi franchise in 2011, after having played for the Kings XI Punjab. In 2012, he moved from Delhi to the now-defunct Pune Warriors India, but had to miss the entire season owing to a knee injury.

He had cost Delhi $350,000 in the auctions, and even captained the side for three games, failing to win a single match with one of them ending without a result.

He retired from the game in 2016 and has done coaching duties at Queensland and Brisbane Heat at the Big Bash League.
