[Watch] Shankar Mahadevan sings the famous 'De Ghumake' anthem ahead of IND vs PAK 2023 World Cup match

Bollywood singer and composer Shankar Mahadevan is delighted to perform ahead of the India-Pakistan showdown in the 2023 World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday (October 14).

In a video on Instagram, Mahadevan can be seen singing the 2011 World Cup theme song ‘De ghuma ke.’ The song was composed by Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa. MS Dhoni-led India went on to win their second 50-over World Cup title that year.

The official theme for the 2023 edition is ‘Dil Jashn Bole,’ composed by Bollywood composer Pritam. Mahadevan captioned the post:

“Superb excited for the most awaited INDIA vs PAKISTAN match at the @cricketworldcup, and, of course, to perform for you guys before the match, at the Motera Stadium, here in Ahmedabad! #DeGhumaake #IndiaPakistan #Worldcup”

The singing sensation will look to recreate the magic on Saturday.

Apart from Mahadevan, Arijit Singh and Sukhwinder Singh will also perform before the marquee Indo-Pak game. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has named the event – ‘A musical Odyssey.’ The ceremony starts at 12.30 pm IST on matchday.

Arijit Singh, in particular, had also performed ahead of the Indian Premier League opener between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans at the same venue earlier this year.

However, the upcoming fixture will be played between equals, as both teams are coming off consecutive wins in the marquee ICC event.

The hosts beat Australia by six wickets and followed up with an eight-wicket win over Afghanistan. Pakistan, meanwhile, beat the Netherlands and Sri Lanka by 81 runs and six wickets, respectively.
