[Watch] Nicholas Pooran's hat-trick of sixes in LSG vs MI IPL 2024 match

Nicholas Pooran smoked a hat-trick of sixes for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match at Wankhede Stadium on Friday, May 17. The left-hander smashed three sixes in the 15th over, two against Arjun Tendulkar, who walked off after two balls due to injury, and one against Naman Dhir.

Pooran smashed two consecutive sixes towards the deep backward square leg, depositing the first maximum in the second decker. Interestingly, the first two deliveries were low full tosses by Arjun. The left-hander then hit Naman for a six towards deep square to complete a hat-trick of sixes. The 15th over proved expensive, yielding 29 runs.

Nicholas Pooran amassed 75 runs off 29 balls at a strike rate of 258.62, including eight sixes and five boundaries. The wicketkeeper-batter shared a 109-run partnership with skipper KL Rahul to help LSG recover from 69/3.

KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran's half-centuries help LSG set a 215-run target against MI in IPL 2024 match

Half-centuries from KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran helped LSG post 214/6 against MI on Friday. Rahul led from the front, scoring 55 runs off 41 deliveries with the help of three sixes and as many boundaries. Meanwhile, Marcus Stoinis and Ayush Badoni chipped in with scores of 28 (22) and 22* (10), respectively.

Piyush Chawla and Nuswan Thushara starred with the ball for MI, returning with figures of 3/29 and 3/28, respectively.

Five-time IPL winners MI have been eliminated from the playoffs this year. They are lying at the bottom of the points table with just four wins in 13 games. The Hardik Pandya-led side will look to finish the season on a winning note.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul's LSG are seventh with six wins in 13 matches. Even if the Super Giants win this match and reach 14 points, they have practically ruined their chance for a place in the playoffs due to a negative net run rate (NRR).
