PCB’s governing board has been dissolved

Pakistan Premier Nawaz Sharif has officially dissolved the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) governing council and replaced it with a five-member Interim Management Committee (IMC) to take care of cricket affairs. The team consists of PCB’s acting chairman Najam Sethi‚ former chairman Shahryar Khan, ex-players Zaheer Abbas and Haroon Rasheed, former team manager Naved Cheema. ESPNcricinfo reports.

The IMC chose Najam Sethi as its chairman in a unanimous vote. Sethi had been the interim chairman since July and will travel to London to represent his country in the ICC board meeting which will be held on October 18 and 19.

An official statement read: “The patron of PCB, the prime minister of Pakistan, has been pleased to direct the following: 1. Paragraph Section 41 of PCB constitution has been amended and under the said paragraphs the board has been superseded,” the PCB said in a release. “An interim management committee has been constituted to ensure that PCB remains enabled to continue to perform day-to-day domestic and international functions for the promotion of the game and in line with the directions of the court.”

A source from the board stated that the IMC will perform the same duties as the PCB, the only difference being the name. The board has has six of these changes so far and last happened some time between 1999-2007. The PCB had come under fire for failing to conduct proper elections. The board missed the October 18 deadline for new elections set by the Pakistan Court.
