Sachin Tendulkar – Still inspiring

Inspired by Sachin Tendulkar‘s Farewell Speech that won the hearts of billions of people all over again, former cricketer and legendary commentator Ravi Shastri decided to pen down what would perhaps be his Farewell Speech when he decides to call his commentary career quits. The entire speech can be found below:

Namashkar Mumbai. (breaking all sound barriers) All in readiness. The two captains are with me and with them is the match referee. Dhoni to spin the coin. Err…

So, the news from the center is, I’m going to retire. Just goes to show you how quickly things can change here. I believe this would be a welcome boundary

Firstly, I would like to thank the atmosphere. It was electric throughout my career, bringing light to my cliched commentary.

I would thank my father, who is a doctor by profession. His support was just what the doctor ordered.

When I retired from cricket, I had no clue what to do. But, it suddenly flashed and flashed hard. It was a crucial spell that worked very well. Since then, my life has moved like a tracer bullet, thanks to my partnership with the BCCI.

With the kind of commentators we had in LSRK, Arun Lal and a few others, I knew that I had to be the sheet anchor. I had to tighten the screws and I’m glad I did it and I knew this would go the distance.

This speech appears to be in the balance now.

I have full faith in the current generation commentators. There’s so much firepower to come. Not sure whether they will end up being better than me or not, because, honestly, all three results are possible.

The crowd are in the edge of their seats as this is going down to the wire. I assume that my speech is going like a tracer bullet.

Well, I also like to thank the fat lady, who sings very well. Oops! This could be trouble here. I’ve been rapped on the ‘note’pad. The next page of my speech is missing. Sunny might have stolen it to keep his biscuits.

No! That’s curtains for my speech.

Can I pull something out of the hat now?

Well, at the end of the day, cricket was the real winner. Thank you. That’s all we have from the presentation.
