Sourav Ganguly to be in charge of Bengal cricket coaching committee

Sourav Ganguly has been named as in charge of the Bengal cricket coaching committee with immediate effect. The coaching committee has been created to organize coaching camps in various parts of the state and help identify and develop cricketing talent in Bengal.

Ganguly had previously headed the Bengal cricket development committee, which has now been disbanded. The development committee had also included former international cricketers Arun Lal and Ashok Malhotra.

Jagmohan Dalmiya, the president of Cricket Association of Bengal has said that the development committee was not necessary for the moment. “As of now there’s no need of cricket development committee,” Dalmiya said, as reported by Cricinfo.

“If need be, we will once again call the committee.”

Meanwhile Ashok Malhotra will replace W.B. Raman as coach of the senior Bengal state cricket team, as Raman has decided to step down due to family reasons.

Ashok Malhotra played for India in seven Tests and 20 ODIs during the early eighties and was also a prolific scorer for Bengal in the domestic circuit. He will have a challenging job on his hands in the coming season, as Bengal have had a very poor Ranji season this year, winning only one of their eight games and losing four.
