Supreme Court of India cancels complaint filed against MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni

In some hugely relieving news, the Supreme Court of India has quashed the complaint filed against Indian limited-overs skipper MS Dhoni for his portrayal as ‘Lord Vishnu’ in a magazine three years ago.

Dhoni had approached the highest authority of the country last year after the Karnataka Hight Court refused to cancel the criminal proceedings against his name. At the start of 2016, a non-bailable warrant was issued against the wicket-keeper batsman by the Vijayawada High Court.

“I am very happy that the court has finally taken the right stance today, that particular picture hurts hindu sentiments. Not just mine, but of several others as well. Even if he was asked to do it, he shouldn’t have gone ahead with it, considering his influential position,” Mr. Shyam Suner, a very high profile leader, who had issued the warrant against Dhoni, had said earlier.

In 2014, the Delhi High Court directed to record a statement of a man who had issued a complaint against Dhoni, accusing him of indulging in insulting Hindu religion.
