Victoria suffer an innings defeat despite Glenn Maxwell's heroics

When Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell, playing for his domestic team Victoria in a Sheffield Shield match, walked onto the pitch with the score reading 9 runs at 6 wickets, things were not looking good for Victoria. However, an 89-ball hundred from Glen Maxwell ensured that Victoria’s name will not replace South Australia as the holder for the record of lowest ever innings score in a shield match.

Maxwell and Cameron White took the team past the lowest score of 27, still held by South Australia, who recorded the score in 1955-56 season. Soon after, White fell with a score at 32.

Maxwell was then partnered by Daniel Christian, and together the pair scored 92 runs for the 8th wicket before Christian was dismissed for 30.

The Victorian team had as many as 5 ducks in their 2nd innings, and only 2 players managed to cross the double-digit mark. Maxwell, who also scored 94 in the 1st innings, was dismissed at 127 by Sean Abbott.

New South Wales, who had scored 452 at the loss of 9 wickets in their 1st innings, won the game by an innings and 48 runs.
