Who is the Best Ever Left Handed Bowler?

I think this list is hard to compile for there is such a dearth of great left handed bowlers.Though here are a few that you can consider who you think is the best.

Alan Davidson (Australia)This great Aussie from the 1950′s and 60′s had it all.He had real pace, swing and seam and when he was in the mood he had real menace. He was the spearhead of the Aussie attack and his opening ball partnership with Ray Lindwall was one of the best in the history of the game

Johnny Wardle (England)This great English spinner was a bit of a liquorice all sorts bowler. He was a classical left arm orthodox spinner.Though at times when the pitch didn’t suit or he wasn’t having success with this style. He’d revert to left arm over the wrist spin with often devastating effects. He was renowned for his stamina and accuracy and the rearing bounce he got when bowling wrist spinHis average from 28 tests was a remarkable 20.39

Bishen Bedi Singh (India)Is it wrong for a man to call another man beautiful?Though watching this great left arm spinner was indeed a thing of beauty. He had such a classical style that relied on flight and deception. He also had a fast bowlers mentality in regards to being an aggressive character.I could watch Bedi bowl for ages he was a purists dream

Derek Underwood (England)The ‘Deadly’ One and what a bowler he was.He was versatile too combining left arm orthodox with left arm cutters depending on the pitch conditions. If he wasn’t involved in Kerry Packers World Series Cricket during his peak. He would have almost certainly held the Test wickets record

Zaheer Khan (India)I think in this generation Zaheer is the most underrated player in the game.To me he is above Tendulkar,Dhoni,Sehwag and anyone in the Indian team as their most important player. As we have seen how the Indian attack was a rabble in the first Test against South Africa without him.To a very coherent and effective unit in the 2nd Test with him in it

Wasim Akram (Pakistan)The great Pakistan new ball bowler, who is regarded as not only one of the best left armers ever, but one of the best ever bowlers. He had it all, swing, pace, seam and a real presence about him.His opening ball partnership with Waqar Younis was one of the most lethal in the games history

Trevor Goddard (South Africa)This great left armer was a very fine swing bowler for South Africa. He got a very respectable 123 wickets at test level at 26.22 a piece

Headly Verity (England)This great English bowler of the 1930′s was one of the stars of the infamous Bodyline series.Where he’d tie up one end to let Harold Larwood maim at the other. He was a left arm spinner of near medium pace and sadly perished in World War 2 due to injuries received.

Tony Lock (England)This left arm spinner sadly had the stigma that has been attached to the great Sri Lankan Off Spinner Muttiah Muralitharan in that he was a ‘chucker’.He had been called for this a few times in his career.Though this aside he was a very fine spin bowler for England over a 49 Test career that netted 174 wicket at 25.58 a piece

Alf Valentine (West Indies)The classical West Indian left arm slow orthodox spinner will forever go down in the annals of cricket history for his role in the Iconic Inaugural West Indian victory on English soil in 1950.His partnership with Sonny Ramadhin tore England to shreds

Chaminda Vaas (Sri Lanka)Like the aforementioned Zaheer Khan for India.I view Vaas as one of the most underrated bowlers in the modern age.He was the key strike bowler for Sri Lanka and a bowler of real skill being able to swing it and seam it at decent pace

So who do you think is the best left arm bowler?
