Omega Pharma Quickstep’s Matteo Trentin, after getting involved in an 18-man breakaway group, wins a sprint finish in Lyon, beating race leader Chris Froome by over seven minutes.

However, the Briton managed to retain his overall lead after stage 14 of the Tour de France. More importantly, Froome is ahead of his closest rivals Bauke Mollema and Alberto Contador by over two minutes.

Contadoe and Mollerma managed to reduce the deficit by more than one minute. But Team Sky managed to hold on to the lead in stage 14.

“The first 80 km was pretty flat out and trying to chase the guys up the road was not an easy task,” Froome said. He also mentioned that the 21 km climb on Mount Ventoux will be a big challenge.

“A climb like Ventoux at the end of 240 km stage is brutal and I am expecting big time gaps on the general classification. I think a lot of people have left energy on the road and lost time over the last couple of days and there are lots of excuses to attack,” added Froome.
