Fernando Alonso tweeted a mysterious and subtle message on his Twitter feed earlier, hinting at his third Monaco Grand Prix victory, which he is expecting.

This would also mark his 33rd Formula 1 victory, and that is what the tweet in question hinted at.

'28/05' will be the date for the Monaco Grand Prix this year, the 28th of May. While a lot of fans thought it to be the same, there's an interesting point to this. If one adds up the two numbers, it yields 33, which is, coincidentally, also the total number of victories Alonso would have if he manages to win the Grand Prix.

While it is a bold statement for him to feel that, battling the two Red Bulls, it can be quite possible given the performance Fernando Alonso has had in the first five races of the season. He has been on the podium in four of them, however, behind the Bulls. Finishing ahead of them is very difficult for teams currently as they have been dominating with their amazing aero design and pace.

However, it might not be that impossible for Fernando Alonso this time around. There is a good chance that there will be very limited overtaking in the race because of the sheer size of the cars. So, if he somehow manages to qualify ahead of both the top sitters, he will have to defend very hard and can perhaps win the Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso is hopeful of winning this year

Although winning might seem to be a far stretch for the reasons mentioned above, the double world champion is not adamant about the fact. Speaking to Sky Sport's Martin Brundle earlier, he mentioned one of the things that is keeping him away from the win and also revealed that the team has to work on it. So there could be a handful of victories for Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin this season.

Fernando Alonso said:

"Hopefully soon. I don’t know. We seem to have a car that is maybe not the fastest on the straights. We need to improve that, but we are very good on the corners."

Although Lance Stroll looks a little far from his teammate, Aston Martin's season has shown great improvement in contrast to their time on the Formula 1 grid. They have moved up quite a bit and stand in second place in the constructors' championship.

It feels as if they could have a battle with Mercedes for that position later in the season.
