Aston Martin Engineering Director Luca Furbatto mentioned that the goal of the team is to become world champion and it cannot be achieved by simply copying Red Bull.

The Italian joined the team in 2021 after he was approached by former technical director Andrew Green to help the team in their transition from Racing Point to Aston Martin.

Furbatto stated that the team's facilities were in their early stages of planning and contruction when he arrived, allowing him to be an integral part of the development process. In an interview with RacingNews365, he said:

"When I arrived here, Building One was just started, the foundations were there but nothing more. So I spent a bit of time looking at the layout of the building, particularly with the R&D labs and the testing facilities and I think that happened before I started pouring the concrete for the foundations there and the same has happened for Building Three.

He highlighted the growth of the Aston Martin facilities since he joined and stated that their goal was to be the World Champion. Furbatto said:

"As you can imagine, as we are growing, we need bigger facilities than we had in this building, in terms of dynos, rigs, and so on and we wanted to make sure with the new building, you got all the services that were state of the art to support that project. Dan did the same for the wind tunnel in specifying the spec of the wind tunnel. It is not just about looking at the performance of the car but the limitations of the current facilities and how we can make it better because our objective is to be World Champion."

"In a way, those are constraints for us" - Aston Martin F1 Director

Luca Furbatto also shed light on the claims that the AMR23 is identical to the Red Bull, dismissing the idea that the two cars are copies. The Aston Martin engineering director said:

"Obviously there are discussions - some are provocations in a way but ultimately, we are using a Mercedes power unit and gearbox and rear suspension. In a way, those are constraints for us. A like-for-like copy, in reality, is not possible because the two cars are fundamentally two different architectures.

It will be interesting to see if Aston Marin can achieve their objective of becoming World Champions sooner than they had previously aimed for. Aston Martin are currently second in the Constructors standings with 102 points, behind leaders Red Bull with a staggering 224 points.
