Ross Brawn: Correct setup is very crucial now

Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn has said that setting up the car correctly for every race is more important than ever before, especially in this new era of the fast-degrading Pirellis.

There is no doubt that the 2012 specification of Pirelli tyres(along with the technical regulation changes) has definitely spiced up the racing a lot with already four different teams winning the first four races of the season. The main struggle for the teams has been to operate the Pirelli tyres in the correct temperature window, for which the right balance must be found. For finding the right balance, the appropriate changes have to be done to the ride height, anti-roll bar, brake bias, wing to name a few.

That’s why we see Ross Brawn insist that the key to unlocking pace from the car is to find the correct setup, just as his team did in China.

“We can’t modify the setup between qualifying on Saturday and the race on Sunday”, he said while speaking to Brazilian newspaper O Estado de S.Paulo. “And they are very different challenges, especially with this year’s tyres.”

“It’s one thing to get the car to be fast on one lap and quite another to make it fast and consistent over 70. Whoever can anticipate what will be required for the race and come to a compromise – maybe to the detriment of grid position – should have a decisive advantage in the race. But it’s not easy to anticipate what happens on Sunday,” Brawn added.
