The last race at Monza saw Sebastian Vettel winning yet again. But what surprised everyone was the treatment meted out to the German by the Italian fans. The Ferrari fans, or the ‘tifosi’ as they are known as, booed the three-time world champion when he stood at the podium at the presentation ceremony.

Even Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo was upset with the fans’ behaviour.

“Thanks to the fans who are fantastic, but we could have done without the booing of Vettel,” Montezemolo said at the Frankfurt motor show.

However, Vettel’s fellow German Michael Schumacher feels that the only way to stop the fans from booing the defending triple world champion is for Vettel to join the Italian outfit. Schumacher, who had an extremely successful stint with the outfit, is still the favourite hero of the ‘tifosi’.

Schumacher further added that initially, the fans did not like him as well.

“They didn’t love me at first. For that, you have to be wearing a red suit,” Schumacher said.

The seven-time world champion went on to explain the fans’ reaction.

“They respect Sebastian’s achievement, but they are not always able to react differently from an emotional side,” he explained.
